How Domains, DNS, Hosting and Email Work Together
A clear explanation of how your domain, DNS records, website hosting and business email connect.

Four pieces, one system
Your domain is your address. Hosting is where your website lives. Email service is where your mailboxes live. DNS is the directory that connects your address to the right places.
What happens when someone visits your site
A browser asks DNS where yourbusiness.com lives. DNS returns your hosting server's address, and the browser loads your website from there.
What happens when someone emails you
The sender's mail server checks your domain's MX records to find your email provider, then delivers the message there. SPF, DKIM and DMARC records help prove your outgoing mail is genuine.
Why this matters
Because these pieces are connected, changing one — like moving hosting — can affect another if DNS isn't updated carefully. Keeping a simple record of where each piece lives prevents surprises.
